confidence refined
Our project aimed to inspire Gen Z students to step into their future with confidence, embracing second hand professional clothing that offers variety, and personality, from the WR NTU Professional Student Wardrobe – making professional dressing feel like them.
concept development
“Styled to Stand Out” was a concept we developed in direct response to the aspect of the breif that mentioned the importance of our concept being confidence-boosting. “Styled to Stand Out” is about using bold angles and structured clothing to evoke confidence.
“Personalise & Accessorise” was inspired by our primary research into what industry professionals are wearing. During our primary research, we noticed that industry professionals personalised their outfits through styling and accessories. We decided that this could be an approach that would allow students to visualise how they would incorporate items from the wardrobe by using their accessories and personal items.
“Confidence Refined” combines aspects from both of the previous concepts. The concept revolves around celebrating a variety of careers using bold posing and accessorising. Combining our concepts allowed us to create a well-rounded concept that fulfilled all aspects of the brief.
Outcomes
We decided to make a digital wardrobe to make it easier for students who aren’t on City Campus NTU to be able to browse through the wardrobe before visiting. This makes the wardrobe more interactive and accessible. We also created posters to advertise the wardrobe, as from our primary research, we became aware that students were not aware of the wardrobe or where it is located. We also created a physical lookbook, allowing students to see how the wardrobe could be styled. The lookbook also features a flipbook section where different trousers and shirts can be mixed and matched. This shows the versatility of the wardrobe. We also included a section about what industry professionals wore, as we discovered there was a difference between what is worn to interviews compared to within the industry. This allows students to understand the expecations wether thats for a new job, an interview or a networking event and dress accordingly.
reflection
This project allowed me to develop my photography skills as we had access to a professional camera. I also formatted and bound the lookbook, which allowed me to develop my skills such as bookbinding further. An aspect that I would have liked to have further explored during this project is the variety of niche courses available at NTU. We did include clothing that an environmental scientist would wear but I would have liked to have delved into niche courses further to allow all students to feel represented.
