The Ethereal Woman

The Ethereal Woman was a response to a breif that explored fashion’s cultural and historical conexts through looking into our fashion obsessions. Our aim was to explore the symbolism and history of beads across time as well as different cultures. We explored this through the lens of femininity with a focus on connection with nature, oneself and people. The final project was presented at  a student exhibition.

Concept Development

Our concept surrounds our item of beads. We wanted to capture this idea of spirituality and femininity while being connected to nature. We developed this concept by creating a moodboard to create our final concept. We chose to use delicate fabrics and an outdoor location to create an ethereal atmosphere and show a connection to nature.

We wanted the images to be striking yet soft to stand out at the student led exhibition. We displayed the beaded accessories alongside the images we took to communicate the visual story.

After the concept was created I worked on the styling aspect of the photoshoot. I helped create the beaded accessories and sourced items such as long silky skirts as well as the beads. My aim was to create an ethereal, feminine look. I did this by using pearlescent and crytsal beads to reflect different elements found in nature to show this idea of being connected to nature.

Project Outcome and Results

The final outcome was a set of three editorial images displayed as a photographic triptych, alongside our physical jewellry pieces in the exhibition.

Reflection

This project allowed me to be hands on with creating physical outcomes as well as model within my own project so I was able to portray our concept accurately. The project strengthened my ability to collaborate within a team while having my own creative imput.
